Goldman Sachs values the global music business at $105 billion, on its way to nearly $200 billion by 2035. Wall Street saw it first. Funds like Blackstone and Hipgnosis paid up to 20x annual royalties for song catalogs, treating them like bonds that keep paying through a downturn, and over $4 billion in music-backed bonds priced in 2025 alone. How does it work?
Artists list a slice of their catalog. You buy shares from $50 through an SEC-regulated offering, earn the streaming royalties those songs generate every quarter, and trade your shares on a regulated market when you want out (or want more).
Is this actually legal?
Yes. Offerings run under Regulation Crowdfunding and Regulation A+, the same SEC frameworks behind platforms like Masterworks. Every offering goes through a FINRA registered broker dealer with real disclosure. No crypto, no tokens, no gray areas.
How do I make money?
Two ways: quarterly royalty distributions (like dividends, paid from real streaming income) and selling your shares if their value rises. Streams can decline too — this is investing, not magic.
What does the artist give up?
Typically 10 to 20% of a catalog's royalties — and nothing else. No masters handed to a label, no recoupment, no debt, full creative control. Fans get the slice a fund would have bought.
Can I sell my shares?
That's the point. Reg A+ shares trade immediately on a licensed alternative trading system; Reg CF shares become tradable after one year. Liquidity is thinner than the stock market — plan to hold, be glad you can sell.
Why would an artist do this instead of a label deal?
